CRITICAL BOOK REVIEW/LITERARY ANALYSIS

Book Report Format
1.  Books typically revolve around a central theme with any number of sub-or lessor themes to enhance it.  Identify one theme from the book; support the presence of the theme with examples from the text, and one or two quotes with page # provided.

    2.  List specific observations you made about the writing in this book.  Use any / all support materials from your literature book, grammar and other materials to assist with identification.  (plot, setting, point of view, characterizations, theme, dialogue, tone, conflict, dialect, etc.*a list should not be in sentences but in phrases.

3.  Write a clear, specific  character sketch of any character from the book using examples from the book and include the page number from the quotes that you have chosen for parenthetical documentation.

4.  Apply your knowledge of figurative language and literary devices to identify specific examples from the author's book. List the device, write and example from the book  and its page number, and then using "because" explain why it is an example of that literary device. (at least twelve examples)(do three more for a bonus of three)
Example:  1.  alliteration--"the long land rose black like night, "(p.16) "because" of the repeated consonant "L" at the word beginnings.

5.  Retell a favorite part of this book.  Include one quote with the retelling and specifically explain why this episode was your favorite.  Use present tense active verbs and parenthetical documentation.
